Personal Bio

Dr. Ghulam Yaseen is a Young distinguished researcher of the Botany, currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, Division of Science & Technology, University of Education, Lahore, Pakistan. Meanwhile He is working as guest editor, member of editorial board of the various Journals, and completed various reviews of the assigned by the various journals. His research integrates methodological approaches from ethnopharmacology, natural product research, public health research, and anthropology. His group's research is based on a transdisciplinary perspective integrating approaches from the biomedical and social sciences with an overall aim of tackling the fast-changing global health needs. His research interest includes the floristic inventory, Ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry and biological activity of medicinal and aromatic plants. Pharmacological studies include anti -malarial, anti-diabetic, antiviral, anxiolytic activity, antimicrobial and antioxidants activities etc. In addition, the lab has applied metabolomics to species authentication and active identification of bioactive compounds. He has published more than 50 research papers (Impact Factor: >160); 10 Book Chapters, organized 10 conferences/seminars/workshops; participated in >30 national and international conferences/seminars/workshops. His citations exceeded >2300 with H-index (20) and i10 index (35). More than 25 undergraduates, masters and doctoral students have graduated under my supervision since 2017. He has worked as Assistant Professor (IPFP) in the Department of Botany, PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi-Pakistan. He has worked visiting faculty member in Department of Plant Sciences, Quaid -i- Azam University, Islamabad. He has thought various courses at BS and M.Sc. level. He also worked as Research Associate in an International project on Digitization of Flora of Pakistan with special reference to Data mobilization and Georeferencing of Plant occurrence from Pakistan funded by GBIF. He serves in various journals as active reviewer and play important role in improvement of manuscripts.

The proposed workshop is aimed to highlight the computational methods for the analysis of such proteomics data, focusing on the explanation of the key concepts in the drug discovery development. Starting with mass spectrometric feature detection, the proposed workshop will cover the methods for the identification of peptides, methods for the quantification of peptides and proteins, exploratory statistics, network analysis, machine learning, and multiomics data integration. Finally, the workshop will discuss current developments and provide an outlook on what the near future of computational proteomics might bear. Besides, we also invite submission of papers focusing on all aspects of Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Bioinformatics, Environment, Ecology, and Public Health, ranging from theoretical analysis to practical research. Background:

Plants have long been used as folk herbal medicines to treat various disorders, and their different natural products have inspired the design, discovery, and development of new drugs. Medicinal plants are natural sources to unravel novel bioactive compounds to satisfy human health issues. The world's demand for herbal medicines is increasing year by year; however, large-scale production of medicinal plants and their derivatives is still limited. The rapid development of modern technology has stimulated multi-omics research in medicinal plants, leading to a series of breakthroughs on key genes, metabolites, enzymes involved in biosynthesis and regulation of active compounds.
The latest research progress highlighted on the molecular intricacy of medicinal plants, including the application of transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics to explore dynamic changes of molecular compounds, and the utilization of potential resources for natural drug discovery. These multi-omics research may provide the theoretical basis for environmental adaptation of medicinal plants and allow us to understand the chemical diversity and composition of bioactive compounds through computational proteomics. It is crucial to emphasize the research needs of using multi-omics technologies to address basic and applied problems in medicinal plants to aid in developing new and improved medicinal plant resources and discovering novel medicinal ingredients.
The drug discovery from medicinal plants remains an important source of novel therapeutic leads, various hurdles exist, including identifying and executing suitable high-throughput screening bioassays, scaling up the supply of bioactive molecules, and acquiring plant materials. Investigating these natural resources takes multi-disciplinary, nationwide, and global partnerships in design, synthesis, discovery, and drug development techniques. Incorporating high-throughput analytical techniques of metabolomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics into medicinal plant research can aid in discovering functional genes, key metabolites, biological elements with pharmacological potential and molecular markers associated with phytochemical compounds.

Goal/Rationale:

The proteins of medicinal plants perform nearly all the work in a cell and are the key players in the structure, function, and regulation of cells, tissues, and organs. Collectively they form the proteome, a highly dynamic and diverse molecular omics space comprising interactions among proteins and other types of biomolecules. The proteome can be studied for drug discovery development comprehensively with mass spectrometry (MS)-based technologies. Thousands of proteins and posttranslational modifications (PTMs) can be studied quantitatively over a multitude of samples in complex experimental designs for possible drug discovery development.
The computational proteomics in the drug discovery development from the medicinal plants can deal with the identification and quantification of proteins from high-throughput data and the biological interpretation of their concentration changes, posttranslational modifications, interactions, and subcellular localizations. Today, these data most often originate from mass spectrometry-based shotgun proteomics experiments.

Submission:

Prospective authors are kindly invited to submit full papers that include title, abstract, introduction, tables, figures, conclusion and references. It is unnecessary to submit an abstract in advance. Please submit your papers in English.

Highlights:

The workshop highlighted the computational methods for the analysis of such proteomics data, focusing on the explanation of the key concepts in the drug discovery development. Finally, the workshop discussed the current developments and provide an outlook on what the near future of computational proteomics might bear. Following topics will be covered during the workshop. The workshop was a huge success, with more than 100 participants from various backgrounds. The speakers delivered insightful presentations, and the Q&A sessions were engaging. The event provided a valuable opportunity for networking and knowledge sharing. The key takeaways will be useful for future reference and application.

Recommendations:

Further research into protein interactions and optimization of synthesis pathways may be undertaken.
Proteomic analysis may be helpful for development of drug, characterization and functionalization of developed drugs.
Investigation of protein to protein interaction, protein to ligand interaction may be helpful in various disease models and clinical trials.
Establishment of regulatory frameworks to ensure safe and efficient proteomics.
